Times staff writer David W. Myers catches up with former Dodgers and Angels

Chosen by the Angels from the Baltimore organization in the 1960 expansion draft, Chance was 14-10 in his rookie season, 1962. But the big right-hander blossomed in ‘64, going 20-9 for a club that barely managed a .500 overall record.

His 1.65 earned-run average and 11 shutouts that year helped him win the Cy Young Award, the only one earned by an Angel. Chance was traded to Minnesota before the 1967 season and ended his career with Detroit in ’71 with a 128-115 mark. Now 52, he lives on a farm in his native Ohio.
