Digital Sends 250 Costa Mesa Workers to Irvine in Cost-Cutting Move

Digital Equipment Corp., the Massachusetts-based computer maker, has moved 250 employees from its Costa Mesa office to Irvine.

The move, which happened over the weekend, was made to save money, said officials from Digital, which has been cutting costs for about two years. During the past 18 months, it has laid off 40,000 people.

The Costa Mesa employees were moved to a building next door to Digital’s Irvine facility at 22 Executive Park. In the past, the two sites had performed different functions. Now both sales and service will be handled from a single office, said Stephen Georgoulis, the company’s site services manager for the western states.
