Share

Four people were injured in a head-on crash Tuesday morning on Ortega Highway seven miles east of Interstate 5.

Eduardo Robles, 18, of Ontario was driving west about 45 to 50 m.p.h. on the highway and lost control of the wheel at a slight curve, said Officer Bruce Lian of the Highway Patrol. The brown Audi that Robles was driving swerved onto the dirt area off the road and came back across the double yellow line into the opposing lane, crashing into a small Toyota pickup truck.

The crash occurred about 11:15 a.m.

Robles had a passenger, Amondo Barrera, 17, of Ontario. Lisa Theresa Sabatini, 29, of Costa Mesa was driving the Toyota. She also had a passenger, Sandra Rosnagle, 34, of Costa Mesa.

Two ambulances, an Orange County fire engine and a paramedic van responded to the emergency, as did several CHP cars.

The victims were treated at the scene and taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.

Robles suffered a broken arm and a concussion, and Sabatini had a facial fracture, but both were reported in good condition, hospital spokeswoman Nancy Gascho said Wednesday afternoon.

Rosnagle was released after treatment and Barrera was expected to be discharged soon.

A witness reported that the Audi had sped past him on the narrow highway earlier, Lian said. Robles was not immediately cited and the accident was under investigation.
