Digital Equipment Corp. Names New CFO: The company, in an effort to accelerate its cost-cutting effort, named Vincent J. Mullarkey chief financial officer, effective immediately. Mullarkey, 46, formerly controller, replaces William M. Steul, 51, who resigned to pursue other interests, the Maynard, Mass., company said. Mullarkey retains the title of vice president. The corporate controller’s position has not been filled yet. The nation’s No. 2 computer maker has posted losses for the past three years. It has come under even more pressure to get its financial house in order after posting a loss for the third quarter ended April 3 that was four times deeper than analysts had expected.
