A summary of selected City Hall actions last week that affect the Westside.

CITY COUNCIL

* COMMUNITY CLEANUP--Approved a motion to use $5,000 from the City’s General Purpose Fund to support community cleanup activities. Among the organizations to be funded are Westside YMCA, West Los Angeles Japanese American Community Center and Palisades Graffiti Busters.

* SUMMER SHUTTLE--Authorized the city controller to use $50,000 from the Coastal Transportation Trust Fund for the DASH-Venice Beach Summer Shuttle. The shuttle will run from May 28 to Sept. 5 and will bus people to Venice Beach from a parking lot at 4501 Glencoe Ave.

* VETERANS PARKWAY--Approved the street closure of Wilshire Boulevard between Sepulveda Boulevard and Federal Avenue on Monday from noon to 2 p.m. for a ceremony dedicating the area Veterans Parkway. Three signs will be placed along that stretch of Wilshire Boulevard, which fronts the Veterans Cemetery.

HOW THEY VOTED

* MAR VISTA TRAFFIC--Authorized the Department of Transportation to use $1.1 million of the city’s Gas Tax Street Improvement Fund to implement an Automated Traffic Surveillance and Control System, or traffic synchronization system, in the Mar Vista area. Passed 14 to 0. Voting Yes: John Ferraro, Marvin Braude, Zev Yaroslavsky, Ruth Galanter, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Nate Holden, Jackie Goldberg.
