CSUN Boosts Child Development Classes

Share

Capitalizing on a growing interest in child development courses, Cal State Northridge’s Ventura Campus has increased its annual course offerings and is holding an orientation at 7:30 tonight to draw new students.

Academic advisers will explain the course work and goals of the two-year bachelor’s degree program, which forms a base for preschool teachers and for pursuing further education degrees.

“That particular degree program seems to attract people who go to school full-time, so we are stepping up (the course offerings) on our side,” said Janis Wilde, the campus academic adviser.

The child development program brings in about 35 new students each semester, so many that the satellite campus decided to offer certain courses every year, rather than every two years.

Graduates have used child development training in medical and therapy fields, but many go on to become elementary or special education teachers.

In addition, advisers will discuss programs in psychology and English on Monday, sociology on Tuesday and business administration on Wednesday. The meetings will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Ventura Campus, 2151 Alessandro Drive.

Interested students may call 654-4575 or 656-3606 for information.
