American Matches Some TWA Discounts: AMR Corp., parent of American Airlines, said it is matching some European fare discounts initiated by Trans World Airlines. “We are going to do a limited match of the special on competitive routes,” a spokesman said. TWA announced the discounts Monday; some carriers matched the fares, but others said they were still studying the move because European bookings were already strong. The latest discounts allow as much as $200 off round-trip tickets purchased by June 13. The lower rates apply to travel between July 3 and Aug. 31, with a maximum stay of 30 days. Northwest Airlines and United Airlines said they were matching the TWA fares on competing routes. Delta Air Lines did not immediately go along.
