AMERICAN LEGION ROUNDUP : Haessig Hits Three Home Runs, Leads Las Virgenes’ 13-4 Romp

Center fielder Bhret Haessig hit three home runs Wednesday to lead Las Virgenes to a 13-4 victory over Granada Hills West in a District 20 game at Calabasas High.

Haessig was four for four and drove in six runs.

Kevin Sass homered, went three for four and added four RBIs for Las Virgenes (2-1).

In other District 20 games:

Burbank South 2, Sunland Tujunga 0--Right-hander Mike Bassett (1-1) pitched a three-hitter, striking out four and walking one. Losing pitcher Newt Wimer threw a four-hitter but two of his walks led to Burbank South’s runs.

Valley North 9, Woodland Hills East 5--Brandon Murphy’s two-run single in the eighth inning triggered a four-run rally and gave Valley North (1-0) the victory at Taft High.

Tony Ardito and Tony Montiel also had run-scoring singles in the inning. Montiel was three for four with four runs batted in. Murphy was three for five with two RBIs.

Van Nuys 15, Burbank North 5--Van Nuys South drew 15 walks in a District 20 game at Grant High.

Greg Levine was two for three, including a single and a double, and drove in two runs. Mike Weiss was two for two. Rudy Velasquez was one for two with three RBIs. Tommy Smith had a three-run double in the sixth.

Sepulveda 17, Mission Hills 16--The teams combined for 16 extra-base hits at Alemany High. Doug Segraves was four for six and drove in two runs for Mission Hills (0-2).

Verdugo Hills 7, North Hollywood 2--After Verdugo Hills starter Danny Fernandez had to leave the game with a sore arm in the second inning, Phil Onsaga pitched five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven. Bryan Chan hit a home run and scored three times. David Boger was three for four with three RBIs.
