WORLD CUP ’94 / DAILY REPORT : THE SOCCER EXPERT : Keeping Position

Share

If an attack comes from left side (1), the goalkeeper moves to the right end of the goal box. If an attack comes from the center (2), the goalkeeper moves up. And when the attack comes from the right side (3), the goalkeeper slides over to the left end of the goal box. On corner kicks, a defender (4) is positioned at each post to help the goalkeeper. On penalty kicks, the keeper is positioned in the center of the goal and dives to whichever side he guesses the kick is going. He might also remain stationary.
