* $25,000 REWARD: Approved a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the attempted slaying of Los Angeles Police Officer Mary Von Hurst, who was shot and wounded on April 23 at 102nd and Grape streets in the Jordan Downs housing project in Watts.

* $15,000 REWARD: Approved a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the slaying of John Falconer, the choirmaster of St. James Episcopal Church and School, who was shot during a robbery on April 21 near Hillhurst and Franklin avenues.

* STREET CLOSURE: Approved the closure of Sichel Street between Mozart and Baldwin streets, which is next to Sacred Heart elementary and high schools, on school days from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

* YOUTH AT RISK: Instructed the city’s chief legislative analyst to meet with representatives of UCLA and USC to assemble a panel of experts to assist the Community Development Department in formulating programs for Youth at Risk, which aims to keep children out of gangs.

HOW THEY VOTED

How South-Central and Eastside City Council representatives voted on selected issues.

* LAND AUCTION: Approved an ordinance allowing the sale of a city-owned parcel of land at 215 W. Ann St., near Los Angeles County Jail. The 23,000-square-foot lot will be auctioned off June 24 at City Hall, with the minimum bid set at $550,000. Proceeds of the sale will be deposited in the city’s general fund to be used to acquire a child-care center in Council District 1, which comprises much of the Eastside. Passed 13-0. Voting yes: Richard Alatorre, Jackie Goldberg, Mike Hernandez, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Rudy Svorinich Jr., Rita Walters. Absent: Nate Holden.

* PARK FUNDING: Voted to override Mayor Richard Riordan’s veto of a budget item that would increase funding to the Recreation and Parks Department by $4 million. The mayor’s plan called for a $2-million increase. Passed 10-5. Voting yes: Alatorre, Goldberg, Hernandez, Holden, Ridley-Thomas, Svorinich and Waters.

* LIBRARY FUNDING: Voted to override Riordan’s veto of a budget item that would increase the amount of funds added to the Library Department by $2.9 million. Passed 14-1. Voting yes: Alatorre, Hernandez, Ridley-Thomas, Walters, Holden, Goldberg, Svorinich.
