Katrina Nguyen has been named student representative to the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education.

Nguyen, a junior at Bolsa Grande High School, will serve as a non-voting member with the board’s five elected trustees for the 1994-95 school year, district spokesman Alan Trudell said.

Her other responsibilities will be to preside over monthly meetings of a student advisory committee to the board and serve as a liaison for the district’s 41,000 students.

Nguyen, 17, said that she looks forward to representing the district and that the position is important in providing administrators and elected school officials a student’s perspective.

Board members, who set policy, “don’t go to school and don’t always know what the students are facing. That’s why it’s so important to have a student on the board, to share with the older generation what it’s like nowadays in school,” she said.
