AT&T; Will Drop Ogilvy & Mather: The phone company said it will drop the big firm as one of its advertising agencies after International Business Machines Corp. decided last month to consolidate all its advertising business--estimated at $500 million worth--with Ogilvy. In pulling its estimated $100-million account, AT&T; cited what it called Ogilvy’s conflict of interest, the New York Times reported. The decision reflects in part the perceived convergence of computing and telecommunications. AT&T; will split its former Ogilvy account among four other agencies: FCB Leber Katz, Ayer Inc., McCann Erickson and Young & Rubicam.
