Airlines Cut Domestic Fares: Major airlines cut domestic summer fares in the latest round of discounts, which have been hitting the industry about every six weeks. Northwest Airlines started the new round Sunday by cutting fares as much as 35% on its domestic routes for travel between July 3 and Sept. 12. Tickets must be purchased 14 days in advance and a Saturday night stay is required, Northwest said. Tickets must be purchased by Friday. Other carriers, including American, United, Delta and Continental Airlines, say they will match the discounts. TWA modified the offer, requiring a seven-day advance purchase.
