WOODLAND HILLS : Taft Decathletes Get Letter From Gore
Vice President Al Gore on Thursday urged members of the national champion Taft High School academic decathlon team and their graduating schoolmates to use their learning for social good.
In a letter dated June 16, Gore wrote that the achievement of nine students who carried top honors in the 13th annual U.S. Academic Decathlon in April “demonstrates the value of hard work, discipline, teamwork and excellence in education.”
And he urged the 570 seniors who graduated Thursday evening “to commit yourselves to making a positive difference for your country, your community and your families.”
Assistant Principal Carol Truscott was pleased--although not entirely satisfied--that Gore had written a letter to the much-lauded decathlon team.
“It’s very nice to hear from the vice president,” Truscott said. “I don’t know what happened to the President, though.”
