Recycle Centers to Take Used Motor Oil

Share

Ventura County residents who do their own oil changes and other auto repairs can recycle their used motor oil by taking it to one of at least 16 locations around the county.

The county’s Solid Waste Management Department has contracted with private auto-repair centers countywide to collect used motor oil from do-it-yourselfers.

Every gallon of oil that is thrown into a sewer, down a storm drain or on the ground has the potential to seep into ground water supplies and contaminate up to 1 million gallons of drinking water, county officials say. In addition, the storm drains can carry the oil into the ocean. Because of the pollution danger, state law forbids the dumping of used motor oil.
