Garden Grove Theme Park a Good Idea
* The (Garden Grove) City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, which agreed to pay for half the cost of a study on the possibility of building a theme park in the city, has met opposition from Councilman Robert F. Dinsen, who said the theme park could involve enormous costs that the city may not be able to afford (“Garden Grove OKs $17,500 Toward Theme Park Study,” June 5).
As with any business venture, there are costs. However, the theme parks that now exist in the Southern California area--Magic Mountain, Disneyland, Universal Studios and Knott’s Berry Farm--are all doing quite well.
The other point is that this would provide a lot of new jobs, for high school age and above, which are greatly needed.
A new theme park, which is planned to feature shopping malls and hotels, anchored by an international trade and cultural center, would not only boost the economy but could be educational for many.
I am behind the idea, and hope that it comes to pass.
