The Cincinnati Reds sent the Atlanta Braves to their worst loss in nearly 16 years Saturday night as Reggie Sanders and Brian Dorsett homered in a 16-0 rout at Atlanta.

It was the second biggest margin of defeat in Braves’ history. Atlanta lost to Montreal, 19-0, on July 30, 1978.

Barry Larkin who scored three runs, and Bret Boone, who drove in three, each had four hits for Cincinnati. The Reds had 20 hits, their most since July 27, 1991.

Winner John Smiley (5-8) stopped his personal six-game losing streak.

Loser Tom Glavine (7-7) already has one more defeat than he had last season when he was 22-6. Glavine gave up six runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Philadelphia 8, Montreal 4--Pitcher Danny Jackson drove in five runs, nearly a third of his career total, and won his fourth consecutive decision, improving to 9-1.

Jackson, a career .122 hitter with 17 RBIs entering the game, hit a bases-loaded triple in the second inning and a two-run double in the sixth at Montreal.

Jackson has hit in five of his last eight games, going seven for 20 with seven RBIs. He is batting .243 this season. Jackson is the first Philadelphia player to drive in five runs in a game this year.

New York 11, Florida 3--Todd Hundley, batting only .098 lifetime against the Marlins coming in, hit two home runs at Miami, giving him 12, one more than his previous career best in 1993.

Reliever Doug Linton (6-2) was the winner, snapping Florida’s four-game winning streak.

Pat Rapp (4-2) lost for the first time since April 15.

St. Louis 9, Pittsburgh 0--Tom Pagnozzi’s second career grand slam highlighted a six-run sixth inning at St. Louis, enabling the Cardinals to snap a four-game losing streak.

Pittsburgh starter Denny Neagle (6-8) and Allen Watson were both pitching shutouts when a thunderstorm halted play for 1:50 in the bottom of the fifth.

Rene Arocha, (4-3) who relieved Watson after the rain delay, blanked the Pirates on five hits over three innings.

Chicago 6, San Francisco 4--Glenallen Hill drove in a career-high five runs and broke a ninth-inning tie with a two-run double at San Francisco.

Four Cub pitchers combined on a two-hitter, holding the Giants hitless after the fourth. Dan Plesac (2-2) got the win, Randy Myers the save (his 14th) and Bryan Hickerson (2-6) the loss.

Houston 6, San Diego 1--The Padres’ Bip Roberts extended his hitting streak to 21 games, the NL high this season, but it wasn’t enough to avert this loss at San Diego.

Ken Caminiti drove in three runs and Jeff Bagwell (.347) went three for three with two RBIs to lead Houston. Shane Reynolds (4-3) beat Mike Campbell (0-1), making his first major league start since 1989 with Seattle.
