CAMARILLO : Music Program Seeks Items for Fund-Raiser

Share

The parent organization that funds the Pleasant Valley Elementary School District’s instrumental music program is seeking donations of furniture and other items for a garage sale fund-raiser.

Save Our Kids’ Music will hold a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 1 and 2 at the Los Primeros Structured School auditorium on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.

Under an agreement that Save Our Kids’ Music forged with school officials more than two years ago, the group reimburses the district for every dollar that it spends on the band program.

The organization is raising money to cover the $7,000 it still owes the district for last year, in addition to beginning payments on the estimated $52,000 bill for next year. The money primarily covers teachers’ salaries.

More than 200 students in the district are learning to play musical instruments through the program.

Save Our Kids’ Music asks the parents of each student who takes music classes to contribute $152 per year, but not all parents do.

People interested in donating items for the garage sale will be able drop them off at the Los Primeros auditorium from 6 to 8 p.m. June 25 and 29.

Save Our Kids’ Music will also pick up donated items for no charge. For pickup, call Reese Copsey at 484-2415.
