The Colombian government Monday announced a temporary ban on guns and liquor during World Cup games. Radio Caracol reported Colombians are prohibited from carrying their guns four hours before each game that Colombia plays, and two hours afterward. The measure is aimed at preventing soccer-related shootings in this heavily armed and violent country.

Similarly, dry laws will be in effect two hours before and two hours after each game. Alcohol cannot be sold or consumed in public. “This is so that when our national team wins, we can celebrate with clear heads and not have so many traffic deaths,” Radio Caracol said.
