Trammell Crow Co. announced Tuesday that James D. Carreker has been appointed president and chief executive, effective Aug. 1.

Carreker, 47, will remain president and chief executive of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, a job he has held since 1988. He succeeds J. McDonald Williams, 53, who will become chairman of the Dallas-based commercial real estate firm. The company’s current chairman, Trammell Crow, is retiring and will become chairman emeritus.

Carreker is credited with turning around the troubled Wyndham Hotels and with more than doubling the size of the Dallas-based chain, which is owned by the Trammell Crow family. The hotel company is not directly affiliated with the Crow real estate company.

During the past five years, Trammell Crow has shifted its focus from development to real estate services such as property management.

Carreker’s “appointment speaks about where we see ourselves going in the service business,” Williams said. “He has transformed Wyndham into a success story in a service-oriented business.”

Trammell Crow, founded in 1948, is the country’s largest commercial real estate service firm--more than twice as big as its nearest competitor--and manages more than 235 million square feet of assets. It also owns more than $8 billion in commercial properties.

This is Nobuhara’s first U.S. assignment. He joined Sanwa Bank Ltd. in 1965 and has held a number of management jobs in Japan and abroad since then. His most recent was as director and general manager of the corporate banking department in Tokyo, where he was responsible for managing the bank’s largest commercial accounts.
