TORRANCE : Non-Resident Students Will Need Permits

Share

Starting in the fall, children of Torrance workers who live outside the city must get a permit to attend schools in the Torrance Unified School District.

The school board voted unanimously Monday to revise the system that allowed workers’ children from other districts to attend elementary and middle schools in Torrance.

District officials said enrollment has increased steadily for the past four years, creating the potential for overcrowding. The changes allow the district to give priority to Torrance residents.

Non-resident students who already attend school under the program will be allowed to continue.

In the fall, non-residents may enter Torrance schools only by applying for an inter-district permit and will be admitted only if space is available. The permit program requires students to maintain good records in attendance, academic achievement and behavior.
