LOS ANGELES : Voting Extended on City’s Contract Offer to Police
The Los Angeles police union extended voting on the city’s contract offer until Friday in an effort to increase officer participation.
Ballots will be available during the day Friday at the Police Protective League headquarters at 600 E. 8th Street for officers who were not able to attend the 11 ratification sessions scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and today. So far, roughly a third of the 7,000 LAPD officers have cast ballots, officials said.
The results of the voting will be announced by the union Monday. The City Council is scheduled to consider the $50-million contract offer next Wednesday. The deal--worked out behind the scenes by Mayor Richard Riordan, Councilman Richard Alatorre and others--calls for a 7% pay raise over the next 18 months, a 2% bonus for patrol officers and $1,500 in cash payments for all officers.
