BRIEFLY : Grants: Writers, Filmmakers Get $54,000

The California Community Foundation has awarded eight Westside writers, filmmakers and arts organizations more than $54,000 in grants and fellowships through its annual Arts Funding Program and Brody Arts Fund Awards.

The recipients of the literary fellowships include Palms resident F. Lawrence Fargo Jr. and writers Russell C. Leong of Westwood and Mark Perlstein of West Los Angeles.

Grants awarded by the California Community Foundation Arts Funding Program include $18,000 for Cornerstone Theatre Project of Santa Monica for its work with the Watts Community Bridge Project and $12,000 to the Santa Monica Museum of Art for its work in Art Partners, an arts education project helping disadvantaged Los Angeles County high school students.

Independent Feature Project/West of Santa Monica received $11,000 for “Involve Productions,” a project designed to give hands-on instruction in independent film production. Other recipients included the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra of Marina del Rey and Imagination Workshop, a Westwood theater group.
