Share

Residents and World Cup tourists alike can put on their cowboy boots and kick up their heels tonight at a country-Western street party on Brand Boulevard in Glendale.

City officials will close Brand Boulevard from California Avenue to Broadway from 6 to 10 p.m. to make way for the nine-piece country-Western band Branscombe Richmond & The Renegade Posse.

The band will perform with Darlene And The Dixie Flyers.

The street party also will feature a ranch-style barbecue, prizes and line-dancing lessons hosted by In Cahoots Dance Hall & Saloon.

The party is the second in a series of three events designed by city officials to lure World Cup fans to Glendale to patronize local eateries, shops, hotels and theaters.

To kick off World Cup festivities, the city presented a soccer dribbling event, which drew crowds of residents to watch participants kick a soccer ball for one-tenth of a mile each around an 18-mile course that spanned the city.

The third and final World Cup promotional event in Glendale will be a cruise night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on July 15. This street party also will be held on Brand Boulevard between California Avenue and Broadway and will feature Dick Dale and Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys.
