Well, it’s always difficult finding a parking place in L.A.: Working at the state Department of Aging has left Robert Brumberger with pains in his back, neck and shoulders.

Brumberger was at his desk in West L.A. one recent morning when he felt a tremendous crash.

“The next thing I know, I’m being thrown across the room,” he recalled. “There was a chair on top of me and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, it’s another earthquake.’ Then I look up and see there’s a car in my office.”

A car that was emitting smoke.

“To make things worse,” Brumberger continued, “my supervisor comes running in with a fire extinguisher, not seeing me, and starts squirting the (carbon dioxide) stuff so it’s choking me and blinding me.”

Brumberger has been on leave since the accident. The driver was shaken but appeared to be uninjured.

“At least,” Brumberger said, “she had insurance.”

The most fitting street name in L.A.: Roger Duncan photographed today’s sign in Glassell Park but it could apply to almost any stretch of freeway in the Southland.

Stay away from Delay Drive: A blue T-Bird was seen zipping down the Ventura Freeway at about 70 m.p.h. Friday morning, with the license frame, “Always late but worth the wait,” and the license plate, L8ISGR8.

Dodger Stadium’s most famous hurler: That, of course, is celebrity vendor Roger (the Peanut Man) Owens, famed for his long behind-the-back tosses.

We were worried when we heard he was seen tossing goobers this week at a California League game in Adelanto (near Victorville).

Had he been optioned to the minors to recover from peanut elbow? (Darryl Strawberry leaving was one thing, but this. . . .) Fortunately, the answer is no. “I was making a guest appearance out there,” explained Owens, now in his 36th year at Dodger Stadium.

Though performing in a lower classification in Adelanto, Owens admitted he had a shaky first inning. “I had to allow for a wind whipping around there,” he said. “And I was throwing single bags rather than the double ones, like at Dodger Stadium. I was off the mark on a couple of double-behind-the-back tosses.”

Owens, who appeared as a peasant peanut vendor in Mel Brooks’ “Robin Hood: Men in Tights,” was sought out by Adelanto’s young vendors for advice. Not on throwing techniques, though--you know how young people are these days.

“They wanted to know how much I make in commissions at major league games,” Owens said.

Lassie’s friendly to sightseers but Cujo can be a real problem: Cliff Dektar saw a sign off Laurel Canyon Boulevard that said: “Maps to the Animals’ Homes.”
