A group that has been working to heal the emotional wounds of this city’s fire victims is seeking volunteers.

Nesee Smith, office manager for Laguna Cares, a counseling service formed after the October firestorm, said many whose lives were disrupted are still facing stress.

“People . . . are thinking, ‘Gosh, by now, by summertime, I thought everything would be back to normal,’ and it’s not,” Smith said. “The shock has worn off and now they’re having to literally deal with the different agencies it takes to rebuild a house or restructure a business.”
