Rubber Workers Approve Goodyear Contract Rejected Earlier: The three-year contract covers 12,000 employees at nine Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plants, the United Rubber Workers union said. Curt Brown, a union spokesman, said six of nine affected locals representing a majority of URW members at Goodyear plants approved the agreement. Vote totals were not disclosed. Members had rejected the agreement in an earlier vote, and an earlier contract proposal was also rejected. Goodyear chief negotiator Jim Warren said the company is pleased with the vote. The agreement provides a $500 signing bonus, a new profit-sharing plan and improved pension benefits, Brown said.
