PerfectData Reports Net Loss of $402,000

PerfectData Corp. of Simi Valley, which designs and markets cleaning ware for office equipment, reported a net loss of $402,000 for the year that ended March 31, after posting net income of $514,000 a year earlier.

The downward turn was attributed to an $803,000 loss in discontinued product lines, including modems, cables and switch boxes for computers and printers.

The company has jettisoned such lines to focus on its core business of cleaning supplies and ergonomic office products such as footrests and copyholders, said Irene J. Marino, chief financial officer.

The company reported revenues of $6.7 million for fiscal 1994, down 13% from the previous year’s revenues of $7.8 million.

The company has been in turmoil since Lee Mannheimer, the firm’s longtime chief executive officer, resigned in the fall amid an investigation into his possible role in an alleged murder-for-hire plot against his estranged wife. Joseph Mazin, the company’s controlling shareholder, took over as CEO in November.
