The principal of Reseda High School has been chosen by his peers to receive an annual leadership award, the Los Angeles Unified School District has announced.

Robert E. Kladifko was awarded the prestigious Thelma Barnes award by the local chapter of the Assn. of California School Administrators (ACSA) at an awards banquet earlier this month.

Under Kladifko’s leadership, Reseda High School will add an environmental/physical science magnet school and a humanitas academy beginning Friday, when the new school term begins.

Kladifko, who has been at Reseda High School since 1987, serves as president of the school district’s Senior High Principals’ Organization. He was named 1992 California High School Principal of the Year by the ACSA, which represents about 14,200 administrators statewide.

On campus, Kladifko is known for his outgoing personality.

“He’s very popular, said Diana Munatones, the school district’s director of communications. “His staff, teachers, students and the parents really like him.”

The award honors the memory of Thelma Barnes, a former Los Angeles principal who was nationally recognized for her contributions to students, parents and the education community.

Past recipients of the award include district Supt. Sidney Thompson, Deputy Supt. Ruben Zacarias, former High School Division administrator Harriette Williams and former Supt. Harry Handler.
