Coming soon to a video store near you--again: “CIA Code Name: Alexa,” a low-budget action film starring accused murderer O.J. Simpson as a maverick Los Angeles police detective.

PM Entertainment of Sun Valley is giving copies of the 2-year-old video to rental stores that order a soon-to-be released sequel. The sequel--”CIA II: Target Alexa”--does not feature Simpson.

PM Entertainment said it had planned to give away copies of the Simpson film as a sales incentive before the football legend was charged with the murders of his ex-wife and her friend. The company says it sees no reason to change its plans.

“I think the publicity will help. It will generate interest,” said George Shamieh, PM Entertainment senior vice president. “I don’t see how it can hurt.”

In the first “Alexa” film, Simpson is a machine-gun-toting detective who is killed while pursuing a terrorist spy ring. The videocassette jacket describes the film as a “climactic explosion of action and violence.”

It wasn’t exactly a blockbuster. PM Entertainment said it sold only 22,000 copies of the first film after it first appeared on HBO. The company expects to sell slightly fewer copies of the sequel, which will be released directly to video in August after one month of filming.

“The market is very tough right now,” Shamieh said.
