WORLD CUP USA ’94 / THE FIRST ROUND : Spotlight : VOGTS RED-CARDS EFFENBERG FOR GOOD

Share

German Coach Berti Vogts said in Chicago that he had sent Stefan Effenberg home Tuesday for twice directing obscene gestures at German fans in Dallas, where Germany held on to defeat South Korea, 3-2, Monday.

The fans were yelling at Effenberg for his play, which contributed to South Korea’s comeback from a 3-0 deficit. The faster Koreans took advantage of Effenberg’s slowness at the German right flank, where he was playing for injured Thomas Strunz.

Effenberg cannot be replaced on the roster.
