Three funnel clouds tore through this tiny town Wednesday, ripping off roofs, knocking down power lines and toppling trees, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

Victoria Lozano said she watched one cloud advance down Palm Drive, the city’s main street, and then head off over a mountain.

“All you could see is dirt,” she said. “It was very dark, just dust and trash and tumbleweeds. Rocks were hitting our windows. It swept right down our main street.”

The funnel cloud tore the tar paper roof off the building next door to the realty office where she works, Lozano said.

The whirling clouds of trash, dirt and debris were reported just after 2:30 p.m. They followed a thunderstorm that briefly interrupted days of scorching heat that further south was blamed for two deaths Tuesday.

The National Weather Service predicted excessive heat in the deserts through Friday, reaching 125 degrees in places.
