Heat Wave Ends; Holiday Weekend Will Be Cooler
The good news is, the punishing heat wave is over--for the moment at least.
After eight days of searing heat, there will finally be some relief this Fourth of July weekend, according to weather forecasters.
Temperatures today through Monday are expected to be from the upper 60s to the mid-70s at the beaches to the mid-80s inland--a welcome relief from the unseasonably hot weather that had air conditioners working overtime.
Overnight lows will range from the upper 50s to the mid-60s throughout the weekend, forecasters said.
“It’s finally cooled off,” said Curtis Brack, a meteorologist with WeatherData, which supplies forecasts for The Times. “The heat wave is pretty much over until we get the old Santa Anas back.”
Forecasters said the drop in temperature is due to scattered thunderstorms throughout the area.
There is a slim chance of thundershowers today--about 20%. But forecasters said it is unlikely that rain will upset holiday plans. Skies are expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the weekend.
The highs Friday were as follows: El Toro, 86; Santa Ana, 83; Laguna Beach, 81; Dana Point, 79; Anaheim, 78; San Juan Capistrano, 76; and Newport Beach, 72.
