By an overwhelming margin, the 2,310 journalists who participated in an Adidas survey selected Brazil to win the World Cup.
In voting done before June 26, nearly 70% of the journalists felt Brazil would reach the final, and of those, 80% predicted that the Brazilians would win. The runner-up was Germany, with 1,115 votes as a participant in the finals and 420 to finish as champion. Argentina and Italy finished third and fourth.
Twenty-one journalists picked the United States to win the Cup.
