Times staff writer David W. Myers catches up with former Dodgers and Angels

Foli, a three-sport standout at Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, came to the Angels in 1982 in a deal that sent Brian Harper to Milwaukee. The fiery shortstop led the league in fielding that year and helped the club to its second divisional title. He was traded to the Yankees after the 1983 season and retired in ’85 with a lifetime .251 average.

Foli, who turned down a football scholarship at USC to pursue his baseball career, is in his third year as the infield and first-base coach for the Brewers. Now 43, he spends the off-season hunting, fishing and playing golf near his Florida home.
