Memorial services are planned tonight for Frank Sciarotta, a longtime Saddleback College professor and administrator who died of cancer Friday. He was 63.

Sciarotta, who retired in 1991 after 23 years of teaching, died at his Laguna Hills home.

“Those who knew Mr. Sciarotta were always impressed with his intelligence, dedication and high energy,” Robert A. Lombardi, the district’s chancellor, said in a memo to faculty and staff members.

Sciarotta, who was originally from Stuebenville, Ohio, joined the district in 1968 as a member of the charter faculty. In addition to teaching biology at Saddleback College, he chaired the college’s mathematics, science and engineering division as well as serving as associate dean of instruction and continuing education. He also served as dean of administration services for the district.
