IRVINE : Violence, Simpson Case Focus of Talk

Share

Students at Irvine Valley College will meet Friday to talk about how the O.J. Simpson murder case has affected perceptions about domestic violence.

“Violence Against Women and the O.J. Simpson Case,” a round-table discussion organized by the Re-Entry and Women’s Center at the college, will be open to the public, said Lisa Angers, coordinator of the center.

The discussion will examine how the killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman, as well as Nicole Simpson’s experience with domestic violence, have drawn attention to a nationwide problem. Students will discuss the circumstances of the case, women’s reactions to it and possible verdicts in the O.J. Simpson trial.

Organizers hope the talk will help people re-examine relationships between men and women and what drives people to violence.

The free discussion will be at the Re-Entry and Women’s Center, at Irvine Center Drive and Jeffrey Road, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Call (714) 559-3430.
