BRIEFLY : Food: Gourmet Dishes to Highlight Garlic Festival

The smell of garlic will waft through the Westside this weekend at the Captain Morgan 11th Annual Los Angeles Garlic Festival. Garlic fans can grab a taste of their favorite dishes from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Federal Building, 11000 Wilshire Blvd. in Westwood.

The festival, founded by Los Angeles restaurateur Katherine Veniero, will feature gourmet dishes from restaurants including Ma Maison, Pane e Vino, Cafe La Boheme and San Francisco’s famous Stinking Rose Cafe. Festival goers will also be treated to jazz, country, reggae and salsa music.

Portions of this year’s proceeds will be donated to Operation Hope, an economic empowerment program for underserved communities, and to the Phoenix Houses of California, a teen-age drug rehabilitation program.
