Thousands of jubilant Swedish soccer fans jammed the streets early Monday, celebrating the victory over Romania in the World Cup quarterfinals.

Stockholm Police had to intervene to help a pregnant woman with labor pains get through the milling crowd and traffic.

The emergency service operator in Malmo said no phone calls were made during the game. But after goalkeeper Thomas Ravelli had saved his second penalty kick, ensuring Sweden a place in the semifinals, a woman called to say her husband had chest pains and needed assistance.

“I wanted to call earlier but he forbade me,” the woman told the emergency operator, according to the national news agency TT.
