Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Mark Kroeker will be honored tonight at a benefit marking the fifth anniversary of the World Children’s Transplant Fund, which he founded.

The organization will have its annual “Veronica Celebration for Life” dinner--named for a 12-year-old Argentine girl whose fight with liver disease prompted Kroeker to organize the fund--at 7 p.m. at the Biltmore Hotel, 506 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles.

State Sen. David Roberti (D-Van Nuys) will present Kroeker, who formerly headed the LAPD’s Valley Bureau, with a special award from the Senate for his work with the fund.

Argentine Ambassador Luis Maria Riccheri will present an award to the fund in honor of Veronica, who died during her third liver transplant.

Proceeds from the $150-a-plate dinner will benefit the fund, whose mission is facilitating transplants for children in underdeveloped nations and raising local awareness of the need for donations, said Executive Director Dana Tkac.
