Carl Feldmeth; Claremont McKenna Environmental Center Founder

Carl Robert Feldmeth, 52, a nationally recognized biologist and founding director of the Roberts Environmental Center at Claremont McKenna College. The center is both an educational and research institute where students study environmental problems in the context of political realities, economic forces and scientific data. His most recent book, “Natural History of the Islands of California,” is scheduled for publication in the fall. Feldmeth earned his bachelor’s degree from Cal State Los Angeles and master’s and doctoral degrees, all in zoology, from the University of Toronto. Before joining the Claremont Colleges, Feldmeth taught at UCLA, where he earned an outstanding teacher award. In a continuing effort to combat world hunger, Feldmeth pioneered the development of fish farms in Ecuador, Morocco and other Third World countries. On Sunday in Upland of liver cancer.
