BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Worrell Stops Talking After Questioning Lasorda

Share

Todd Worrell--who sometimes offers his opinion about how Manager Tom Lasorda uses him and the other relievers--has refused to talk with reporters the last couple of days and said that while he is not angry, he doesn’t want to talk anymore. Worrell did not give a reason, but his comments during the last home stand, when he questioned Lasorda’s use of the bullpen, were not received well by Lasorda and, apparently, Executive Vice President Fred Claire.

Claire said he hadn’t talked to Worrell about his recent comments, but offered a strong opinion about complaining to the media: “If a player has something to say, he ought to address it directly. We have a manager, a pitching coach and a player. They can all communicate together.”

Minor league report: Darren Dreifort, sidelined because of a strained right shoulder, is improved and is expected to throw off the mound today. . . . Chan Ho Park, who sat out a start because of stiffness in his back, is back in the rotation. Claire said he is pleased with the progress of both since they were sent to double-A San Antonio. Claire said Park is utilizing his fastball more and, though his walks are still high, is making progress.
