Memorial Service for Maury Gutkin of Leisure World

A memorial service will be held Saturday for Maury Gutkin, who served on several city committees and was a member of Leisure World’s governing board.

Gutkin died last week of a heart attack. He was 79.

Gutkin served on the Golden Rain board of directors from 1987 to 1991, dealing with Leisure World transportation, traffic and security issues.

He was chairman of the Seal Beach Civil Service Board for five years, and in 1984 served on a committee that explored ways to revitalize the Main Street shopping district.

Born in Philadelphia, Gutkin worked for 16 years as an English teacher at Lincoln High School and El Sereno Junior High School in Los Angeles. He retired to Leisure World in 1982.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, and daughter, Rikki, both of Seal Beach.

The service will be held at 2 p.m. at Leisure World Clubhouse 3, Room 1.
