The parents of Denise Huber tried Wednesday to get their lives back to normal.

Dennis Huber, a mortgage broker, returned to work in Santa Monica. Ione Huber had breakfast at a restaurant with some friends.

“I just wanted to get out of the house for a while,” Ione Huber said. “So much has been going on here.”

However, the Hubers remained in contact with authorities about the investigation into their daughter’s murder. “We haven’t heard anything new today,” Huber said.

The family also was making preparations for the memorial service for Denise, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Mariner’s Church, 1000 Bison Ave., in Newport Beach.

The service will be open to the public.

The family’s pastor, Walt Shepard, will officiate and friends and relatives will give eulogies.

“We want to let people in on her personality, sense of humor and Christian faith,” Shepard said. “We really have so much to be thankful for when we remember the good memories of Denise Huber.”

The family intends to bury Denise Huber in South Dakota on July 28. That service, however, might be postponed if medical examiners in Arizona don’t release the body as scheduled.

Ione Huber said the family will establish a memorial fund in memory of their daughter. She said the fund will be handled by the family’s church, Aliso Creek Presbyterian. The charity that the fund will benefit has yet to be selected.

Donations may be sent to the Denise Huber Memorial Fund at 120 Columbia Drive, Suite 100, Aliso Viejo, Calif. 92656.
