Church to Mark 50th Anniversary
The city’s oldest Roman Catholic church will celebrate its 50th anniversary Saturday with a Mass by Cardinal Roger Mahony.
The Mass will be attended by former priests who led services at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Newhall more than 30 years ago.
The hourlong service will be at 5:30 p.m. at the church, 23233 Lyons Ave., said Father Patrick Power, the church priest. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
Eight priests who taught at the church as far back as 1961 will attend, he said. In addition, high-ranking members of the Catholic fraternal organization, the Knights of Columbus, will serve as ushers and lecturers during the Mass.
A 50-page yearbook highlighting the parish’s 50 years in the Santa Clarita Valley will be sold for $6 following services Saturday and Sunday.
