The Rams’ ongoing auditions for a receiver to play opposite starter Flipper Anderson have been interrupted by injuries.

Rookie Chris Brantley, who had caught the attention of the coaching staff, has been sidelined because of a hamstring injury.

Rams--Wide receiver Todd Kinchen was placed on the physically unable to perform list because of a knee injury, not the injured list as reported in Tuesday’s Times.

“Brantley has been very impressive,” Coach Chuck Knox said. “I just hope this is a temporary setback.”

Monday, on the final play of practice, wide receiver Sean LaChapelle was tackled by Dexter Davis in a non-tackling drill and injured his leg.

The Rams began training camp with 11 wide receivers competing for three or four spots. Jeff Jones was released earlier this week, and Todd Kinchen was placed on the injured list because of a knee injury.

Defensive end Robert Young had seven sacks in the first four games last season, then injured a knee and was lost for the year.

Now, he’s back, and according to Knox, is in prime form.

“He has looked great and has dominated in the one-on-one pass rushes,” Knox said.
