Some 1,300 employees of a local computer manufacturer have been setting aside personal belongings during the past year for the fifth annual Unisys Corp. rummage sale.

The sale Saturday will benefit Saddleback Community Enterprises, a nonprofit organization that trains developmentally disabled men and women.

The sale will be spread across the parking lot of the company plant at 25725 Jeronimo Road. The event will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We try to get involved in the local community and (Saddleback Community Enterprises) is right across the street, so this makes sense,” said Carole Wapelhorst, volunteer coordinator for Unisys. “This has been an annual event for us and it’s very popular. We get a lot of traffic to the sale.”

Saddleback Community Enterprises helps train mentally impaired adults for the workplace.

About 200 students are taught job skills and placed with employers in the area.

“We help them lead very useful lives,” said Michele Anstadt, a spokeswoman for the organization. “They learn a lot here.”
