SIMI VALLEY : School Board OKs $259,000 for Vehicles

Lagging two years behind on its vehicle replacement plan, the Simi Valley school board approved a $259,000 expenditure this week to purchase new school buses and maintenance trucks.

Despite financial problems, district officials told the board that the district’s vehicle fleet has deteriorated so badly that it hinders employees’ ability to drive safely and efficiently.

“We have workers who have no vehicles to go out and do the work in,” Supt. Mary Beth Wolford told the board Tuesday.

Funds from a variety of accounts budgeted for new and replacement equipment will pay for the new vehicles, which will include three 20-passenger school buses, four maintenance trucks, three vans and a warehouse truck.

Wolford said the district should have the new vehicles by December.
