WOODLAND HILLS : College Aims to Lure Workers to Class
In an effort to entice Valley employees back to the books, directors of the adult education program at Pierce College are mailing hundreds of flyers to local businesses and sponsoring orientation sessions at workplaces throughout the San Fernando Valley.
The 400-student Project for Adult College Education, PACE, which was established on the Pierce campus in 1986, offers working adults a chance to earn an associate in arts degree in five semesters of evening and weekend classes.
Directors of the program say the sluggish economy of the past few years has emphasized the need for workers to boost their education.
“Four years ago, it was for career advancement that most people were coming,” PACE Director Jeff Cooper said. “More and more they are coming for job security.”
The program, which allows working adults to finish a degree program four times faster than through traditional night school classes, costs about $400 for a semester.
Many students who graduate from PACE go on to earn a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university. For more information, call (818) 719-6455.
