Nearly 8,000 housing permits were issued in Orange County during the first half of the year, the biggest total for that period in five years, according to the Construction Industry Research Board.
Builders took out 7,966 housing permits, compared to 3,276 permits for the first half of 1993, the Burbank-based real estate group reported. The last time the total for the six-month period was higher was in 1989, when 8,890 permits were issued.
